This past weekend I had the true pleasure of attending my first C'Ville Artist Meet-Up group.  This group was formed to create a network of artists who want to make connections, share ideas, collaborate, and inspire!  Sunday's afternoon meeting was a simple sketching session, a time to work on your own projects in the midst of other creative minds.  I've included a few of the earrings sketches I came up with during that session and hope to make them into a 3D reality in the coming weeks. Please check them out and let me know if you have a favorite. I certainly love the feedback!

This flower-sun earring has a lot of potential for me. Something whimsical, fun, and keeps in theme with my "trio flower bud" series, only with a twist of summer sun. I can see that is a mixed metal earring with silver and copper. What do you think?

My final sketch is something that quite surprised me because of its complexity.  This started out as just 3 simple lines, but as the Meet-Up conversation carried on, so did my Ultra-fine Sharpie! :)   I typically like to stay away from traditional imagery like stars and flowers that might normally adorn a high school art-student's chemistry notebook, so I'm totally not sure how I feel about this yet. Perhaps seeing it cut out in metal will sway me.

I went to the meeting having no clue what to expect but left feeling like a had tapped in a somewhat latent part of my brain.   As the meeting ran on, the snow started to fall... and today I enjoyed this lovely view of my backyard... ahhhhh....

I can only laugh humbly, as I remind myself that humans can only try to make art.  Nature SO has us beat.

No.... I'm not talking about children, but I AM talking about the earrings I completed today! What I love most about the creative process are the unlikely sources and times of inspiration.  I set out today knowing I would complete the flower bud trio earrings but was never quite settled on how I wanted the post to look.

After some quick sketching and imagination, I got to work on making small discs that would later be hammered with a texture to match the larger oval, drilled,  filled with a bud-post, and soldered to the bottom oval. As I was making the little discs, I was struck by how simple and attractive they were all by themselves.  BOOM! New earring idea. With my creative juices pumping and the Flower Bud Trio Earrings complete, I immediately got to work on a new pair of smaller BUD STUDS.

Simple, with a touch of funk, my new bud studs are complete and have been added to my Etsy page. The most rewarding part of today was that merely 15 minutes after posting to Facebook and Etsy, I received one of those heart-warming emails with the "Etsy Transaction - Order Confirmation" header.  Not only did I have the quickest moment of inspiration, but I also completed my fastest sale!
